Generic first posting

I have finally succumbed to the notion of blogging and am going to join the 8 million bloggers of this world in posting opinions and miscellany to the world.

The blog revolution is truly fascinating. With everyone from Bill Gates to Le Monde expounding on the merits and future potential of the blogosphere, it seems only appropriate to try it out and see how it fits.

Other interesting blog stats:
  • If you have a blog, you are probably a young male with broadband, a fair amount of disposable income, an education, and a lot of hours clocked on the internet already.
  • If you have a blog, you have a one in two shot of keeping it active
  • 4x as many people read a blog as have one of their own, though their demographic profile differs insignificantly from the people who do the actual blogging
  • 1.5x as many people comment on a blog as write their own
  • The second most popular blog language (after English) is French (shocking - I thought for sure it would be Spanish. I credit Le Monde.)

The most fascinating part to me about all of this is the growth. The same study done approximately a year ago, found only 2% of Americans had a blog, and only 11% had read one (compared with 7% and 27%, respectively).

And, one more fun stat for the road: the most popular English weblog site?

The Start a Blog page on Blogger.
