iPoderific
I was lucky enough to receive an iPod this Christmas and I have joined the ranks of the iPod fanatics. I know there are already plenty of people writing about their love for and the greatness of the iPod, and, as big a fan as I purport to be, there are far more interesting things to know about the iPod then just what I think of it. Like what, you ask?
- The first year iTunes was available, the iTunes store sold 70 M songs, at a rate pf 2.5M a week
- Current iPod users are downloading, on average, 4 million songs a week - putting them on pace to sell 200 M songs in 2005. They have already sold 200M total since they launched iTunes.
- Doing the back of the napkin math: 4M songs a week equals approximately 7 songs per second (not nearly as impressive as I expected that figure to be...)
- iPod has hit its tipping point
- It has a new baby brother
- The iPod is secretly a robot
- iPod shuffle mode leaves a lot to be desired (and might secretly prefer some of your music over others. This has certainly been my experience - my iPod appears to love the Beatles, despite the paucity of them in my collection.)
- iPod has a large and growing fan base
- The iPod has been to every continent - including Antartica and Europe - as well as on a boat.

My iPod actually has too much beatles. I have ripped the live stuff from the BBC so when I have a beatles day I get some strange results from shuffling all their tracks.
I get Brian introducing a song from the very early years such as "she love me" recounting a clever anecdote about the boys, alcohol and fame followed immediately not by that song but rather by a studio cut of "Lovely Rita."
Jill, You should know that your super power is clearly the bullet list...
Keep up the blog!
