The gates, redux
It seems only appropriate after having blogged about The Gates to blog about all the mockery of The Gates on the web:
- The Somerville Gates: I especially like his table of comparisons between Christo's gates and Hargo's gates.
- Batman, Famous Bear, and Andy Warhol visit the Gates: Quoting from the Boing Boing post that featured this installation: "Boing Boing reader Jake says, 'I built this 5" replica of The Gates using an actual piece of the Gates! How meta is that? But then my cat knocked it down.' "
- The Crackers: What scared me about this one is how realistic it looks, especially against the back drop... Again, to quote the artist himself...
Gift to the City — is it Art or for the Birds? "The Crackers" is as much a public happening as it is a tasty snack, defying the domino theory. Peanut butter or cheddar cheese. They poured their hearts and souls into the project for over 26 minutes. It required three dozen crackers and spanned over nearly 23 inches along a footbridge in the park at a cost (borne exclusively by the artists) of $2.50. Is it art? You decide. The installation was completed with no permits or bureaucracy, and fed to the ducks after about a half hour. "The Crackers" is entirely for profit
And in case you were wondering how the actual gates were doing, there are pictures of the actual installation, flapping happily in the NYC wind, up on the artist's web site.
