I just met a drink called Chantico

Starbucks is playing around with line extension again. This time, in a delicious, delectable new direction. The melted dessert parading around as a drink is called the "Chantico." And while there is a maddening lack of info about it on the Starbucks web site, there are (thankfully) more then enough news stories talking about it, like USA Today, Yahoo, and CNN Money.

You want some interesting factoids about the Chantico? Only too happy to oblige:

  • Named for Aztec goddess of hearth and fire, who provided homes with comfort and heat for cooking.
  • A six-ounce cup of Chantico contains 390 calories, 20g of fat and 50g of carbs
  • Chantico is steamed with cocoa butter and whole milk
  • First tested the drink in various markets, including Milwakee, under the name Chocofino
  • Currently is served in a 6 oz cup - but if you pry them, they will make you a bigger one
  • Starbucks has created special ceramic mugs for Chantico

I like this quote from the USA Today article:

"This should be a very occasional treat — like maybe on your 100th birthday," says Neal Barnard, author of Breaking the Food Seduction. "It has more fat than most candy bars."
