Shopping Survey

I don't like to admit to the number of vapid fashion mags I "read," so I feel at odds posting about something in Elle magazine, but here goes. Elle and AOL did a survey of men and women on shopping habits. Here are some of their findings:

  • 29% of those surveyed say they prefer to shop with a friend - which would seem to indicate that shopping is a fairly lonely activity if the remaining 71% all prefer to shop alone (assuming spending a day shopping with strangers wasn't the winner).
  • 30% like spending money while shopping once a week and 88% prefe to shop in an actual store rather than online (9% prefer that). It is fascinating how hard that needle is to move - there are a lot of things where the web still can't do any justice.
  • 29% of the folks surveyed consider themselves trendy, 22% preppy, and 19% girly and 19% sporty. Given that this is very much not the fashion distribution where I live, it makes me wonder where the majority of the Elle readership is based.
