World Wind Pictures and Tools

No one publishes science data like NASA. NASA has just released version 1.3 of World Wind:

World Wind lets you zoom from satellite altitude into any place on Earth. Leveraging Landsat satellite imagery and Shuttle Radar Topography Mission data, World Wind lets you experience Earth terrain in visually rich 3D, just as if you were really there.

The screenshot samples are just fantastic - though you need to see them full screen to really appreciate how cool they are. I just love national administrations that cater to image junkies.

This one is an arial view of Greenland, which is just as cold looking in real life as it is in my head.
